Dr. K. M. Cherian
Heart Foundation is accredited with
the National Board of Examination for
Post-Graduate training in the Super
Specialty area of Cardiology and Cardiac
Surgery. The training program started
in July 2005. Recruitment for training
is through a written test and an interview.
The panel will choose two candidates
for Cardiology and one for Cardiac Surgery
as the final chosen trainees. Courses
commence in July and January every year.
Frontier Lifeline
& Dr. K. M. Cherian Heart Foundation,
Chennai, has been recognized by the
Indira Gandhi National Open University
(IGNOU), New Delhi for the Post-Graduate
Diploma in Clinical Cardiology program.
The Clinical Cardiology course addresses
the critical requirement for the availability
of comprehensive cardiac care programs
in the rural areas. It also addresses
the urgent need for an awareness of
the epidemic of cardiac diseases within
our rural community.
This 2-year course
in Clinical Cardiology is aimed at MBBS
graduates who have completed internship.
It is primarily designed to impart theoretical
and practical knowledge on Cardiology
and will satisfactorily serve the aspirations
of candidates desiring to specialize
in this field.
The focus will be to
provide training in clinical and non-invasive
cardiology to enable doctors to provide
quality cardiac care in a rural community
setting. They will also have the
unique opportunity of undergoing hands-on
training in a rural setting at our Cardiac
Care units at Parumala and Kottayam,
Kerala and at Nellore, Andhra Pradesh.

accolade of the ISO 9001:2000 CERTIFICATION
for laboratory services, Frontier Lifeline
follows the highest order of international
standards in quality management systems
in the departments of Clinical Biochemistry,
Clinical Pathology, Hematology, Histopathology
and Cytology, Immunology, Microbiology
and Serology and Transfusion Medicine
ensuring dependable and reproducible
laboratory reports. The lab services
have also acquired the National Accreditation
Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories
certification for quality competence.
Frontier Lifeline
& Dr. K. M. Cherian Heart Foundation,
Chennai, has recently been empanelled
under the Central Government Health
Scheme (CGHS). Medical establishments
qualify for this empanelment only after
complying with rigorous criteria and
strict scrutiny by the Board for the
quality of facilities and services offered.
World-class cardiac facilities can be
availed now at Frontier Lifeline at
subsidized rates for both cardiology
and cardiac surgery. Frontier Lifeline
is happy to be of service to the nation
and looks forward to offering many years
of treatment of both state and central
Government employees.
A Memorandum of Understanding
was formalized on 6th November, 2006
between the Dr. K. M. Cherian Heart
Foundation and ISRO, Department of Space,
Government of India. ISRO’s Telemedicine
Network now covers 165 hospitals, 132
rural health centers and 35 specialty
hospitals. ISRO’s satellite based
telemedicine network which started in
2001 on an experimental basis, is aimed
at linking remote / rural hospitals
with super specialty hospitals in major
cities. Telemedicine facilities were
established between Frontier Lifeline
at Chennai and its affiliated hospitals
in the neighboring states namely;
St. Gregorios Cardiovascular Centre,
Parumala, Kerala
St. Joseph’s Hospital, Santhapet,
Nellore, Andhra Pradesh
Shri Venkateswara Institute of
Medical Sciences, Tirupathi, Andhra
Pradesh
Dr. Sanjay M. Cherian, Cardiac Surgeon,
was awarded a PhD, Cardiac Surgery by the
Dr M.G.R. Medical University. The topic
of his thesis was on “Association
of Chlamydia Pneumoniae with Calssification
in Atherosclerosis”.
Dr. Soma Guhathakurta, Cardiac Surgeon,
was awarded a PhD, Biotechnology by the
Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
The topic of her thesis was on “Processing
of Bovine Pericardium as a Biomaterial
in Cardiovascular Surgery”.
Mr. Palani, Senior Physiotherapist, was
awarded a Post-Graduate Diploma in Yoga
and Naturopathy by Dr. M.G.R. Deemed University.
He performed research on “Role
of Yoga and Nature Cure in Preventing
Heart Attack”.
